The Rule of Law

In its simplest form, the rule of law means that “no one is above the law.” It is the foundation for the development of peaceful, equitable and prosperous societies. For the rule of law to be effective, there must be equality under the law, transparency of law, an independent judiciary and access to legal remedy. Yet, about 57% of the world’s population lives outside the shelter of the law. That’s five billion people struggling for basic, human rights on a daily basis.

Our Foundation

LexisNexis® Rule of Law Foundation is the not-for-profit entity established by LexisNexis Legal & Professional to further activate its mission to advance the rule of law around the world. It is committed to solving problems related to transparency, access to legal remedy, equal treatment under the law and independent judiciaries using core skills and partnerships to further the rule of law.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to advance the rule of law around the world. Publishing laws and enabling access to justice is at our core. Each time we document a case, release a decision tool or support the development of a legal infrastructure, we're working to expand the umbrella protection of the rule of law.

Our Customers

Work in the rule of law is in collaboration with customers in legal, corporate, government, accounting, tax and academic institutions in more than 175 countries, which rely on us to deliver improved outcomes by helping them make better decisions, achieve better results and be more productive.

Our Mission

At LexisNexis® Legal & Professional, we’re working to bring the percentage of people living outside the umbrella protection of the rule of law down to zero through our day-to-day business operations, products and services, and actions as a corporate citizen.

Our Mission

#LN4ROL - Mobile Court Trip to Kg Meligan, Sipitang, Sabah

At LexisNexis, we are committed to supporting the community, and regularly collaborate with local legal luminaries to advance the rule of law.

In Southeast Asia, we are proud to have supported the Mobile Court program since 2018, an initiative by the Courts of Sabah and Sarawak bringing judges, court officers, and lawyers directly to the indigenous communities who need it most, in East Malaysia. This initiative aims to address the prevalence of statelessness in the area, arising from a lack of access to the relevant agencies, including the National Registry Department, and has helped to facilitate the adjudication of over 89,000 statelessness cases since its inception in 2007.

This year, we moved the needle further, with the introduction of a practice guide produced in collaboration with the Sabah Law Society for first-time volunteer lawyers, supporting them in addressing common issues that arise quickly, and in accordance with local laws.

#LN4ROL – Mobile Court Trip to Ranau, Sabah

Most of the rural communities in East Malaysia are unable to access the services provided by the Courts due to the distance between the Court and the rural areas. As a result of this need, the Mobile Court was created. A group of Judges, court officers and lawyers traverse the tough terrain to dispense legal aid and justice to those in need. LexisNexis is honoured to have been a part of this expedition since 2018.
