Karnan, has found Justice Karnan of Calcutta High Court guilty of contempt of Court and sentenced him to six months imprisonment. The Madras High Court, In – Re the Registrar (Judicial) High Court, Madras 600 104, has held that the Special Court notified as per first proviso to Section 14 of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 as amended, has got power to directly take cognizance without there being any need for committal. The Supreme Court of India, in Chairman and Managing Director FCI and Others vs. Jagdish Balaram Bahira and Others, has held that withdrawal of benefits secured on the basis of a caste claim which has been found to be false and is invalidated is a necessary consequence which flows from the invalidation of the caste claim and no issue of retrospectivity would arise. The Delhi High Court, in National Lawyers Campaign for Judicial Transparency and Reforms and Others vs Union of India and Others, has held that a document received as a WhatsApp forward does not even qualify as a document in terms of the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, if neither the original nor the copy of the original has been produced. Legal News
(a) A three Judges Bench of Supreme Court comprising of Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justices NV Ramana and Dr.DY Chandrachud has held that an appointment to a post or admission to an educational institution secured on invalid caste/tribe certificates void.

(b) The Supreme Court goes partially paperless after summer vacation. All fresh matters listed in the top five senior most Courts will be digitally filed in Court. This initiative is part of the massive drive to digitize Courts.

(c) BJP MP Subramanian Swamy has filed public interest litigation before the Delhi High Court seeking a time-bound court-monitored multi-disciplinary probe into the murder of Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a five-star hotel suite.

(d) The Supreme Court Judges bench of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud has asked the Central Government to tell within two weeks if the people with genuine reasons can be allowed to deposit demonetized currency notes of Rs 500 and 1000.
